This Veterans Day, we’re spotlighting the incredible community spirit of Keller, Texas, as we honor those who have served our country. Every year, the Alex Viola Memorial Car Show takes over the steps of Town Hall and fills th parking lots. Hosted in memory of Special Forces Staff Sgt. Alex Viola, a Green Beret who gave his life in Afghanistan. The event brings together car enthusiasts, families, and supporters to celebrate Alex’s legacy and raise funds for veterans and their families. The show featured an impressive lineup of classic cars, vintage Americana, and custom one-of-a-kind models while creating an experience everyone could enjoy. It’s a heartfelt tribute to Alex while honoring the brave men and women serving our country.
A Show for a Cause
The Alex Viola Car Show is not just about displaying impressive vehicles—it’s about making a difference. The event proceeds go to veteran support programs and charities that honor Alex’s legacy, including the Green Beret Foundation and the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. This year, the community turned out in full force, showing their support with generous donations and heartfelt tributes. Alex’s parents are dedicated to carrying on their son’s memory. Their commitment reminds everyone of the powerful impact one person’s life can have on their community. When speaking to Alex’s Dad, the final total of funds raised was nearing $700,000!
Field of Honor: A Community Tradition
Each year, the Rotary Club of Keller organizes the “Field of Honor,” a moving tribute to veterans, active military, and first responders. Rows upon rows of American flags fill the field. Each flag represents a hero and reminds us of the sacrifices made for our freedom. The Field of Honor symbolizes gratitude and unites the community in remembrance and reverence. This stunning visual display in Keller draws people from all around, providing a space for reflection and appreciation.
Keller Citizens Police Academy: Connecting the Community with Law Enforcement
During the show, we had the pleasure of speaking with Beth, the President of the Keller Citizens Police Academy. This fantastic program offers Keller residents a unique, hands-on opportunity to learn about police operations and build a stronger connection with local law enforcement. Over 11 weeks, participants gain insights into police tactics, traffic laws, and investigative procedures, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the work that keeps Keller safe.
Programs like the Citizens Police Academy foster community understanding and empower graduates to actively support Keller PD through the Volunteers in Police Services unit. Beth’s passion and dedication shine through, inspiring residents to connect with and support the essential work of Keller’s police force.
