Tucked away in Old Town Keller, the Keller History Museum is a true community treasure. What began as a vision by a small group of long-time Keller residents in 2012 has grown into a vibrant hub of history and education, showcasing the rich legacy of Keller and the Cross Timbers region.
The Story of the Jarvies House
The journey of the Keller History Museum began with the founding of the Old Town Keller Foundation. This passionate group of locals dedicated themselves to preserving the history of the area, and their work took a significant leap forward when the opportunity to save the Jarvies House arose.
Originally located at Main and Taylor streets, the Jarvies House faced demolition to make way for modern development. However, the Foundation saw its potential as a space to store and display the area’s artifacts. After receiving the city’s approval and a 25-year lease, the Foundation moved the house to its current location at the west end of Bates Park on October 7, 2013. Exactly one year later, the museum opened its doors, becoming a place for the community to celebrate and preserve its heritage.

What You’ll Discover at the Keller History Museum
The museum is packed with fascinating exhibits and artifacts, offering visitors of all ages the chance to explore the stories of Keller’s past. Highlights include:
- Artifacts from the First School and Post Office: Step back in time with items that showcase Keller’s early days.
- Medical History: Explore tools and documents from one of the town’s first doctors.
- Scavenger Hunts for Kids: Engage children with interactive activities that teach them how tools and implements were used long ago.
In addition to its exhibits, the museum regularly hosts classes, events, and speakers, many focusing on the impact of trains on the region—a key part of Keller’s growth.

A Community Effort
The Keller History Museum is an independent, non-profit organization that relies on donations, grants, and memberships for support. Admission is free, ensuring that everyone in the community can enjoy and learn from the exhibits. Members also receive discounts on classes offered by museum volunteers.

Looking Ahead: Celebrating 100 Years
In 2026, the Jarvies House will celebrate its centenary, and the Foundation is planning a centenary celebration to honor this remarkable structure and the history it represents.
