Spotlight on Veteran-Owned Business: Food Saved Me Institute

This week, we’re proud to feature Veteran Owned businesses in our local community. Today we share the inspiring work of Katherine Lawrence, an Iraq war veteran, nutritionist, and founder of the Food Saved Me Institute. Katherine’s journey from serving as an engineer in the U.S. Air Force to empowering communities with life-changing nutrition education is one of resilience, dedication, and a passion for helping others lead healthier lives.

It all began in 2003, where she served in Iraq as an engineer and bare-base officer during the initial months of the war. After returning from her service, she transitioned into the world of nutrition. She founded the Food Saved Me Institute to bridge the gap between complex nutrition science and practical, everyday health. Her new mission? To make nutrition accessible and simple for everyone, helping individuals incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives.

Veteran-owned businesses have a heart for service in every way. Their experience and commitment to excellence are engrained in everything they do. When you support local you are supporting the mission and heart that reaches so many in different ways. We love the passion of our local business owners while we learn their amazing stories about why they do what they do.

Making Nutrition Science Simple and Accessible

Food Saved Me Institute is located in Southlake, Texas, where Katherine and her team provide online nutrition and cooking classes designed to improve well-being. With a straightforward, accessible approach, these classes tackle real-life health concerns, including:

  • Nutrition for Better Sleep
  • Food Addiction 911!
  • Immune Boosters and Busters
  • Nutrition for Ovarian Cancer Prevention
  • Kitchen Revamp – Healthy Meal Preps

Each class is crafted to empower individuals with actionable steps they can take immediately, helping them make better choices and enjoy healthier meals without the stress of complicated nutrition advice. Katherine’s work is making a difference across communities, offering tools and knowledge that help participants make impactful changes in their lives.

A Global Reach: Training Nutrition Instructors Worldwide

Katherine’s impact doesn’t stop at her classes. Food Saved Me Institute also certifies instructors to teach these essential courses worldwide, expanding the reach of her program across 15 countries with over 130 certified instructors. This global initiative is empowering individuals everywhere to bring Katherine’s science-based, easy-to-understand nutrition education into their own communities.

The next instructor training is scheduled for December 12-14 (online), providing an incredible opportunity for those looking to make a positive impact through nutrition education.

TEDx Talk: Are Common Foods Worsening Your Child’s Neurodivergent Symptoms?

Katherine recently gave a TEDx Talk, launching in December, titled “Are Common Foods Worsening Your Child’s Neurodivergent Symptoms?”. This presentation draws from her board certification in autism and her personal experience with neurodivergence within her own family. In conjunction with the TEDx Talk release, Katherine will offer a new online course, Neurodivergent Nutrition, designed to support families looking to improve their child’s well-being through diet.
